My home

Hello. My name is Sothea and I would love to show you around my home city of Battambang and surrounds.

Battambang is a big rural city in Cambodia’s rice-growing heartland where I grew up with my siblings. Our parents were farmers who survived the horrors of the Khmer Rouge era to provide for us in the best way they could.

But that dark history does not define Battambang today. It is part of our history and there are many stories from this time I can introduce you to if you want.

Today’s Battambang has a charm, thanks to clever management from a progressive Provincial Governor. The old French-colonial styled buildings are preserved and spaces either side of the Sangker River are given to riverside dining and recreation. There is an active art scene in this big rural city. Local artists have been encouraged and given space to express themselves and several art galleries carry their works. Some of their art has been shown around the world. Traditional markets are always full of colour and banter. Cafes everywhere.

I love Battambang and and have a lifetime of experience here. My business now has modern mountain bicycles and a Tuk Tuk so we can offer a range of tour options for all ages and capabilities.

We can also offer multi-day excursions. Explore our offerings in ‘Tours’.

March 2023

This was such an enjoyable day! I really enjoyed visiting the local natural sites with Sothea, especially the temple and religious sites. Sothea is a great guide who is friendly, helpful, and does his best to make sure everyone is having a great time. I can see how much the locals appreciate sharing their culture and local products with visitors. Highly recommended activity in Battambang!!

EXCEPTIONAL AFTERNOON

Four of us went cycling around Battambang and what a pleasure it was. We saw the fish market, were taught how rice whiskey is made, ate bamboo sticky rice, watched rice paper being made, visited the famous Buddha cultural center and the killing field site. It was so cool to cycle through the suburbs and get a real feel for ordinary life. Sothea was absolutely outstanding, what a wonderful man and so keen to talk about life in Cambodia. His girlfriend was excellent back up support with endless bottles of water, coke and delicious fruit at the end. She drove a scooter and took fabulous photos of us all. This company is so worth supporting and was started by a Kiwi who is working in Cambodia giving free training around PTSD, social work and counseling skills. This is such valuable work in a country that is so scarred from their past. Total ride was 25km, it is all flat which makes it easy. We cannot recommend this more highly.
