Riverside in Battambang

The river levels are up and down. Rain is a big influence of course but so are the cropping seasons here. Water gets diverted from the river to the crops. Right now the river is humbled by the demands of the cropping cycle but that doesn’t diminish its appeal to the locals.

The Sangker River cuts through the centre of Battambang and is a feature the city makes good use of. The river has been beautifully landscaped for dining and recreational use. The people love this and make good use of it for eating out or having fun. For a visitor, it’s a treat to walk the river in the cool of the late afternoon and mix it with throngs of locals out having fun.

Beyond Battambang the Singer River flows into Tonlé Sap, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and part of the Mekong River system.
