“This Peace monument commemorates the commitment, efforts and hopes of the Cambodian People in breaking away from the violent past in this province and establishing a peaceful, non-violent society.”
The Naga Peace & Development monument was made from guns, rifles and other small arms gathered from the community over a 2-year period between 2005 and 2007.
The weapons were collected under a program called ‘Peace Building and Comprehensive Small Arms Management Program in Cambodia and was funded by the Japanese Government with the co-operation of the Cambodian government and police, and non-government organisations.
The monument was created from the small arms by artists – Toun Thorneakea, Ou Chim Vishet and Kim Sandy.
